Heather Morgan
Heather Morgan has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for laundering stolen Bitcoin with her husband, Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein. Lichtenstein admitted to hacking Bitfinex in 2016, stealing 120,000 Bitcoin worth $71 million then and nearly $11 billion now.
In this gallery, we dive into the way Bitcoin operates, as well as Morgan’s future plans.

Decentralized cryptocurrency
Bitcoin is the first decentralized cryptocurrency, enabling peer-to-peer transactions without a central authority. It was created in 2009 by an anonymous person using the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, who published a white paper outlining its principles.
By purchasing it on exchanges
Transactions are verified by network nodes through cryptography and recorded on a public ledger called the blockchain, which is maintained by a decentralized network. Bitcoin can be obtained through mining, where powerful computers solve complex mathematical problems, or by purchasing it on exchanges.
The total supply of Bitcoin is capped
The total supply of Bitcoin is capped at 21 million coins, making it a deflationary asset. The scarcity is designed to increase its value over time as demand grows.
Bitcoin has gained significant popularity
Bitcoin has gained significant popularity as both a digital currency and an investment vehicle, attracting attention from individuals and institutions alike.
Donald Trump's election victory
Bitcoins value recently soared following Donald Trump’s election victory. Despite its advantages, Bitcoin has faced challenges with regulatory scrutiny, security concerns, and price volatility.
Before her arrest
Before her arrest, Morgan was a blogger for Forbes and Inc. She also gained fame for her crypto-themed rap videos as “Razzlekhan.” Their story will be featured in a Netflix documentary and a film titled “Dutch & Razzlekhan.”
Cooperating with authorities
Morgan pleaded guilty last year to helping Lichtenstein hide the stolen cryptocurrency through complex money-laundering techniques. Lichtenstein also pleaded guilty and received a five-year sentence. Both received lenient sentences for cooperating with authorities.
Telling my story
Morgan stated that she “will soon be telling my story, sharing my thoughts, and telling you more about the creative and other endeavors I’ve been working on.”
