Mario Lopez Breaks Silence on His ‘Biggest Challenge’

Mario Lopez and his wife, Courtney Lopez, recently starred together in their first holiday film, “Once Upon a Christmas Wish.” The couple have been married for 12 years. In the film, Mario plays Mayor Brian Ortega, who reconnects with his childhood friend, Nina Meyers, portrayed by Courtney. Navigating their dual roles as husband and coworkers presented challenges for Mario.

Mario said, “The biggest challenge, I would say, is you still have to navigate the balance of husband and coworker.”

Mario described the experience as an “incredible time,” and expressed his joy in collaborating with family. He praised their son, Dominic, for his impressive performance.

Mario said, “She is sharp and talented, so I enjoy it,” adding, “I thought, what better way . . . to launch this relationship than with a project with my actual family and my wife, who’s wildly talented.”

Mario added, “My son Dominic did a great job, really impressed me. And the movie had a lot of heart. I’m really happy with the way it turned out.”

In discussing the secret to their marriage, Mario quipped that Courtney is “the quarterback of the team.” The couple is working together on various projects, including their radio show and occasional hosting duties on “Access Daily.”

Mario said, “She’s the quarterback of the team . . . I just let her call the plays and listen accordingly.”

Mario added, “We respect each other, and she understands the schedule’s a little crazy, and I support her… we make it all about the kids. I’m very happy with my life at the moment. I feel very blessed and lucky.”

Mario was discovered by a talent agent at a dance recital when he was just 10 years old. He began his career in local advertisements and commercials before moving on to television roles.

Lopez’s acting career started in 1984 with a role in the ABC comedy series “a.k.a. Pablo.” He later gained recognition as A.C. Slater on “Saved by the Bell,” which aired from 1989 to 1993 and had a sequel in 2020.

In addition to acting, Lopez has hosted numerous shows, including “Extra,” “The X Factor,” and “Access Hollywood.” He also has a nationally syndicated radio show called “ON With Mario Lopez.”
