‘I’m Scared as Hell’: Kevin Costner Was Brutally Honest at ‘Yellowstone’ Table Read

Denim Richards, who plays Colby in “Yellowstone,” recently recalled his first encounter with Kevin Costner during a table read. He said Costner has a humble yet commanding presence, and noted that the Hollywood legend’s words had eased the cast’s nerves. Richards said, “Everyone is getting together and [Costner] walks in. Richards stated, “Everyone is getting ready to get up from the table read and go outside. [Costner] said, ‘I don’t know about you guys, but I’m scared as hell. So why don’t we come together the best we can, and make this happen, and support each other.’”

Richards said, “You could feel the stress go out of the room. It was a beautiful thing.”

Richards added, “This is an Oscar-winning legend… whether or not he was really scared, who knows. But it gave everyone this extra level of confidence that there’s no hierarchy.”

Costner, a two-time Oscar winner and pop culture icon known for films like Dances With Wolves and The Bodyguard, has amassed a substantial net worth over his career. In 1990, Costner directed and starred in Dances With Wolves, which won seven Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture. Following the film’s success, he reportedly earned $50 million in just one year from various projects.

Costner portrayed John Dutton, the Dutton family patriarch, for the first five and a half seasons of “Yellowstone.” His character was killed off in the latter half of the current season due to scheduling conflicts and contract disputes related to his film project, “Horizon: An American Saga.”

Cole Hauser, who plays Rip, expressed gratitude for the show’s impact on fans, noting its role in bringing families together each week. Reports have suggested that a spinoff featuring Kelly Reilly’s character, Beth Dutton, and her husband Rip Wheeler, may be in development.

Hauser said, “It’s been an unbelievable experience the last couple of weeks of just seeing people out and about and their acknowledgment of the show and the character and what it’s meant to them.”

Hauser added, “We will see what happens over the next year or so, and we’ll see what’s next. Hopefully, we can continue to get in people’s living rooms and entertain them the way we have over the last seven years.”

Hauser concluded, “I think America has spoken. They still love the show. There’s obviously just tons of people that every Sunday get together with their families, and we give them the experience of taking ’em out of their own living rooms and putting ’em in Montana and entertaining them. And I think ultimately it’s just that simple.”
