It's Happening Again
Fashions typically come back around every 20 years or so, so now is the perfect time for a reemergence of ‘90s clothing styles. Although some are better left in that decade, we can’t help but welcome the return of specific pieces. Let’s talk about several of the ‘90s fashion styles you’ll soon notice making the rounds if you haven’t spotted them already.
Baggy Jeans
Baggy jeans have been inching their way back the last year or so but really made their mark on the 2024 fashion scene. One thing that has changed this time around is how to wear them. Years ago, it was all about pairing them with super-tight, midriff-baring shirts, often halter tops or tank tops, but this time around, there’s less focus on smaller tops and more emphasis on what you feel good wearing and showcasing your personal style preference. If you’re unsure where to start, consider taking a cue from ’90s style by pairing the baggy jeans with a form-fitting T-shirt. Throw on a pair of boots or sneakers, your favorite jewelry, and a bomber jacket, cardigan, blazer, trench coat, or any number of similar jackets, coats, or tops, and you’re all set.
Chunky Sneakers
Can we talk about how comfortable chunky sneakers are? They’re bulky, as the name suggests, and yes, they differ from platform sneakers. Chunky sneakers are often favored among people who prefer unique, funky styles rather than the basics. Men and women are sporting them, although you’ll typically see them on the latter more than the former. Wear them with miniskirts, dresses, slim-fit jeans, baggy jeans, leggings, and various other options.
Flannel Shirts
Flannel shirts are undoubtedly popular for men and women, especially in autumn. You’ll typically spot them buttoned or unbuttoned with jeans and leggings, although some will sport them with other types of pants, like khakis.
Overalls
Once a staple of ‘90s fashion, overalls are back in 2024. No, they’re definitely not just for farmers, nor are they only available in denim. You’ll find them made of numerous types of fabrics, including leather. Not sure what to wear underneath? It depends on the look you’re going for. Opt for super-casual with a tank top and sneakers, or lean into a business casual direction with a button-up shirt and strappy heels. Overalls have a playful vibe in fashion, so don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works for you.
Platform Flip Flops
Platform shoes, including sneakers, have been popping back into the fashion scene in the past few years after having a solid presence in the ’60s, ’70s, and ’90s. You’ll see many fashionistas wearing them, but considering the height of the shoes, many people might love them but shy away from incorporating them into their wardrobe. How you wear them and the overall style ultimately depends on your preference. You could wear platform sneakers and skinny jeans one day and an A-line dress with platform Mary Janes the next.
Slip Dresses
Slip dresses are yet another ‘90s trend making their way back around. Wear them under or over clothing or even as-is. Considering they’re available in numerous hues, from pastel pink to deep black, you can choose the vibe you want. Although they tend to resemble women’s lingerie, multiple options have a professional vibe, so you could wear them to work, although you will likely have to wear a top or jacket under or over it.
